This role, within the Financial Control department, will work in a team of ten people on financial accounting activities. The Financial Accounting team is responsible for maintaining the accounting records of the UK companies and branches; preparation of monthly accounts and reports; annual financial statements; and general control activities. This role will be working closely with the legal entity controller of the European Bank to maintain the accounting records of the offshore branches (Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden and Abu Dhabi) and Holding entities, and be involved in the Account Ownership programme which ensures that the business owners sign-off on their P&L and Balance Sheet on a regular basis. It will involve working with legal entity controllers and accountants of other European entities on intercompany and inter-system reconciliations. Additionally, there will be the need to assist the legal entity controllers with month-end responsibilities and other business and system projects as required.
Principal Responsibilities
• Maintain accounting records and prepare monthly reporting for overseas branches (4) of the European business;
• Maintain accounting records and prepare monthly reporting for holding entities (6), using IFRS and US GAAP;
• Prepare annual financial statements (IFRS) and act as audit liaison for one branch (Sweden) and two holding entities, plus 3 dormant companies;
• Assist legal entity controller with preparation of Account Ownership reporting, documentation of processes and liaison with business units such as Treasury and Cash Management;
• Prepare intercompany reconciliations of European entities and co-ordinate investigation and resolution of differences with accountants in Europe, US and other countries;
• Settle intercompany balances;
• Prepare inter-system reconciliation for European entities and investigate differences;
• Assist legal entity controllers with month-end responsibilities and other control activities.
Skills / Experience
• Accounting or business degree preferred
• Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA or CIMA
• 2 years experience in a financial services environment, ideally Banking or Asset Management
• Strong understanding of accounting standards, either IFRS or US/UK GAAP
• Good Excel skills required
• Experience of Hyperion Financial Management (Consolidations) and PeopleSoft (GL) systems would be advantageous
